Kylesku Walking Map

Walking in the area of Kylesku, Eas a’ Chùal Aluinn (waterfall), and the Assynt mountains around Quinag offer spectacular walking in a wild, unspoilt landscape. With well-marked paths and panoramic views from summits like Sail Gharbh and Sail Ghorm. Situated within the Northwest Highlands Geopark and part of the Assynt–Coigach National Scenic Area, this region is a haven for lovers of wild hillwalking and rugged coastal paths. The hike to Eas a’ Chùal Aluinn, Britain’s highest waterfall at 200 metres, is a challenging yet rewarding route across open moorland and rough ground, offering sweeping views of Loch Glencoul and the surrounding peaks. Nearby, Quinag, managed by the John Muir Trust, is a complex mountain with three distinct summits, providing exhilarating ridge walks with panoramic views across Sutherland’s dramatic lochs and sea inlets.

The picturesque hamlet of Kylesku, once a ferry crossing point and now linked by the striking Kylesku Bridge, is a scenic base for exploration. The area is sparsely populated with Norse place names, and remnants of crofting heritage. Wildlife is abundant, with chances to see golden eagles, red deer, and seals. The remoteness enhances the sense of escape, making walking here a truly immersive Highland experience.
