Walking in the area of Brixham, Kingswear, Dartmouth, Galmpton, and Stoke Fleming offers a rich mix of coast, countryside, and heritage. The South West Coast Path runs through this section of southern Devon, providing stunning clifftop routes with panoramic views over Start Bay and the English Channel. From Brixham, walkers can enjoy dramatic coastal walks past Berry Head National Nature Reserve, with its Napoleonic forts and limestone cliffs. Inland, peaceful trails around Galmpton and Greenway offer a gentler experience, including the Greenway Walk, leading to Greenway House, the former home of Agatha Christie, now a National Trust property.
In Dartmouth and Kingswear, history and landscape meet beautifully. A riverside walk along the Dart takes in the Dart Valley Trail, where woodland paths and estuary views abound. Dartmouth Castle and Kingswear Castle mark the estuary entrance and are excellent heritage highlights along coastal routes. Hill walkers can explore the undulating terrain above Stoke Fleming, with breathtaking vistas and hidden coves such as Blackpool Sands below. The Dartmouth Steam Railway connects Paignton to Kingswear, with walkers often incorporating heritage rail journeys into day hikes. This area blends seafaring charm, dramatic headlands, and historic intrigue, making it a rewarding destination for all walking enthusiasts.
