Settle, Stainforth, Malham & Kirkby Malham Walking Map

Walking in the Settle, Stainforth, Malham, Kirkby Malham, and Malham Tarn area offers some of the most iconic landscapes in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Pennine Way, England’s oldest National Trail, passes through this region, taking in dramatic features like Malham Cove – a towering limestone amphitheatre – and the serene waters of Malham Tarn, England’s highest glacial lake. Hill walks here are spectacular, particularly the ascent of Pen-y-Ghent nearby or the trails around the limestone pavements above the cove. The area is threaded with river walks too, notably along the River Ribble and the babbling waters around Janet’s Foss waterfall and Gordale Scar, a deep gorge of towering rock cliffs.

Settle and its neighbouring villages are rich in heritage. Malham and Kirkby Malham have retained their rural character and host centuries-old churches and traditional stone cottages. The dramatic geological formations of the Dales provide a unique inland equivalent. The timeless beauty of the stone villages and preserved railway heritage more than compensate for it.
