The area around Watchet, Williton, Bicknoller, Stogumber, Monksilver, and Washford offers a wonderful mix of coastal paths, rolling hills, wooded combes, and historic villages, making it a fantastic destination for walkers of all abilities. Nestled between the Quantock Hills, the Brendon Hills, and the Exmoor fringes, this part of West Somerset is rich in natural beauty and heritage. Starting at the historic harbour town of Watchet, walkers can follow sections of the West Somerset Coast Path, offering spectacular views over the Bristol Channel. The rugged coastline, fossil-strewn cliffs, and pebbly beaches make for a dramatic and ever-changing landscape. A great option is heading towards St. Decuman’s Church, perched on a hill overlooking the town, or taking a circular walk through local farmland, linking with quiet country lanes. Just inland, Williton sits at the meeting point of key walking routes leading towards the Quantock Hills. Nestled at the base of the Quantock Hills, Bicknoller is a perfect starting point for exploring Bicknoller Combe, a wooded valley leading up to the heath-covered Black Hill. The Coleridge Way, a long-distance trail inspired by the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, also passes nearby. The village of Stogumber offers tranquil countryside walks, often incorporating farmland, wildflower meadows, and sections of the West Somerset Railway line, where vintage steam trains add to the charm of the landscape.
