This Boudicca Way map covers the 36-mile long-distance walking trail in Norfolk, stretching from the market town of Diss to the historic city of Norwich. Named after Boudicca, who famously led a rebellion against Roman rule in AD 60-61, the path seeks to honour her legacy and the broader historical context of Roman Britain. The trail traverses areas that would have been familiar to the Iceni tribe, offering a tangible link to the past.
The Boudicca Way long distance footpath starts in Diss, known for the Mere, a six-acre lake at the heart of the town which is one of the deepest natural inland lakes in the country, as well as its historic buildings. The trail winds through the rolling countryside, taking walkers through delightful villages such as Shotesham, Pulham Market and Saxlingham Nethergate. The route is characterised by its varied landscapes, including farmland, woodlands, and scenic river valleys.
The trail also passes several historical landmarks and sites of interest, including ancient churches, Roman roads, and remnants of the area's Anglo-Saxon heritage. The walk culminates in the historic city of Norwich, home to the stunning Norwich Cathedral and the Norwich castle built by the Normans as a royal palace. Norwich is also famous for its well-preserved medieval churches, with more standing medieval churches than any other city north of the Alps.
Waymarked and well-maintained, the Boudicca Way provides an excellent walking experience for those looking to explore the heart of East Anglia, combining historical interest with the peaceful Norfolk countryside. Boudicca Way path closures and any temporary route changes can be found on Norfolk County Council’s website.
