The Ebor Way is a long-distance footpath in England which is approximately 70 miles long, starting in Helmsley and finishing in Ilkley. It takes its name from Eboracum, the Roman title for York, the Ebor Way offers walkers a journey through diverse landscapes, including moorlands, woodlands, valleys, and charming villages.
The second Ebor Way walking map covers the section from Haxby to Wetherby which is approximately 18 miles. Continuing on from where the first map finished in Haxby, just north of York. From Haxby, the trail heads south towards Skelton. This small village is mentioned in the Domesday Book and St. Giles Church is 13th-century. The route skirts York but the city is shown on the map should you wish to take a diversion and explore this historic centre. South of York, the path follows the River Ouse, leading you through Fulford and then past Naburn. Fulford is known for being the site of the Battle of Fulford in 1066 where Harold Hardrada was triumphant. Naburn, a small village by the river, features the Naburn Locks and the old swing bridge which is worth a visit. Continuing on you pass through Acaster Malbis and Appleton along quiet country lanes and stretches of farmland. Next up is Bolton Percy with a fine 14th century church called St Paul’s and then comes the market town of Tadcaster, famous for its breweries and historic bridges over the River Wharfe. Striding on refreshed you arrive at Boston Spa an elegant Georgian village with fine riverside walks. Finally this map ends in Wetherby and a well earned rest.
